How I Came to Be a Vietnam Tour Guide
I started traveling in Vietnam 12 years ago and the first time I did, I bought a motorbike and drove it from Hanoi to Saigon. I got really off the beaten path, into the villages and learned to speak the language. I made lots of friends and they would invite me to see and do unusual things. To questions like “We’re going to plow in the rice paddy with the water buffalo today. Would you like to see what that’s like?” and “My husband is from a small fishing village. It’s incredibly charming and no one knows about it. Would you like to see it?” I always answered YES! And so I have a huge treasure trove of “hidden gems” experiences like these that I’ve built up over my years traveling there. I’ve taken my favorites and curated them into 2 week tours! My groups are very small - a minimum of 4 people make a tour and there is a maximum of 8 people on a tour. I’ve come to realize that people who buy art are frequently also travelers and culture lovers so I feel like my ideal tour client is also my existing art collector.
