Heroes

These new pieces are a special extension of my original comics series. I call this new group Heroes. Where the background for the previous comics pieces were romance comics from the 1960s, the background for these is a 1957 comic book entitled Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story. This particular comic is credited with inspiring many to take on non-violent protest as a means to achieving civil rights for all with its story of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Stories have been told of many activists taking a copy of this comic with them to lunch counter sit ins. John Lewis was reported to be a big fan so it seemed like it would be a very fitting background for these portraits. I look forward to creating more Heroes portraits to add to this series.
