The Couch Party Series

Can your imagination come out to play? This fun series is the epitome of art that makes your home happy. At its heart, each piece imagines what our pets do when we close the door behind to go to work, to the gym, to take the kids to school. In other words, while we go about our serious adult lives, our fur babies are dancing on the couch, throwing parties, taking their own pets for walks and even joining the circus!
The background for each piece are radio schematics from the 1950s. I glue them onto wood, add large amounts of texture and paint on top of them. Sometimes, I cover the schematic completely and wipe the paint away in certain places so the schematic peeks through. Other times, I leave the schematic completely exposed and only paint the animals so that the schematic is a more active part of the piece (this technique was inspired by the way I use the romance comics in that series). Two very different looks; both a lot of fun.
